Today we made an origami lantern/house! The two sided patterned paper created a beautiful interior. One of the moms said "I would live in this house". And so would I :-).

January All Day Art Camps: Murals and Incredible You!

2/4/2016

During the January All Day Art Camps we focused on life size mural paintings. The topic was: You! After  a couple of doodle warm-up exercises the students worked in pairs to trace each other’s body shapes on large sheets of paper. Then they set about creating artwork within that shape and outside of it. The results were stunning :-)

Incredible You! 10 Ways to let your greatness shine through.
The book “Incredible You!’ by Wayne Dyer has been a favorite of Skye and mine for many years. It’s message is that we all have special gifts and talents. The book guides you and your child through a series of questions.
We took turns reading a chapter of the book at the start of our day to find inspiration for creating a life size “Incredible Me” painting.

What If?

This past month the students and I have been experimenting with three dimensional art. We created paper lanterns, swirly gigs and last week we created sculpture gardens/adventure play grounds.
We used simple construction paper, 2 different colors glued together. The guidelines were simple: use the entire sheet of paper, longer strips are great for creating curvilinear shapes. Then we created little people made of pipe cleaners for scale.
Once the sculptures started to take shape, (at warp speed !), and we talked about different types of shelter, the sculptures turned into imaginative adventure playgrounds.
One student said "What happens if we put them all side by side?". Brilliant!  This is exactly what we did.  The students became so engaged in their imaginative and interactive play with the sculptures that we went overtime :-)
