Artist Statement
My art transports me to ancient people and places. It allows me to travel through time and learn about world cultures, art, architecture and myths. The depth of abstraction and connection to the immediate environment, flora, fauna and the larger universe draw me in.
As a teenager I experienced first hand the power of place at Chartres Cathedral, with it’s magnificent light quality and stonework. |
Bio
Elisabeth Winnen is a Portland based artist, designer and educator with over 20 years experience in drawing, painting, arts education, architectural and digital design. In 2012 she began a series, Unesco World Heritage Site paintings, based on her travels to ancient architectural sites. The images she creates intertwine architectural plans, mural paintings and sculptures. This landed her her first exhibit in downtown Portland. She draws, inks with technical pens and paints with water colors and acrylics on large sheets of water color paper. Additionally she began a digital art series based on her favorite Dutch painter and a Greek muse and was juried in the Muse exhibit in Bend, Oregon. As a certified Soul Art facilitator, she leads workshops in the U.S. including in Hawaii. Elisabeth is originally from the Netherlands where she earned her art and art history teaching degree and traveled Europe extensively before completing her Masters in architecture in the Sonoran desert of Arizona. Her latest field of interest is (spiritual) ecology and marine life. A new series of work is emerging fueled by a love of nature. The study of the recent emerging field of Spiritual Ecology prompted her to participate in the coursework of "A deep dive into Spiritual Ecology" and "Seeds of Radical Renewal. A leadership course for spiritual ecology leaders". Where to find her? In the woods. Staring up at the trees. Or looking down at it's roots. At the beach. Looking down at the washed up kelp and shells. Dancing in he sand. In the dance studio. |
